Research
The Bracken County Historical Society maintains a large volume of historical documents. We have many files and notebooks with information on families, including cemetery records, that have had connections in Bracken County. We also have files with varied information regarding the county history in our office located at 207 Madison St. The Historical Society also maintains the pre-1900 county records for deeds, marriages, wills, etc. located in the archive room on the 3rd floor of the courthouse.
We do not charge members who come to the Historical Society office and/or the third-floor archive room to do their own research. Nor do we charge for the time a trained volunteer spends assisting visitors or members with on-site research. Donations are appreciated.
A charge will be made for contract research work done by a trained BCHS volunteer on behalf of the society. The monies from this research are used for the general operating costs of the Historical Society.
The charges for doing the research are $15.00 per hour and 25 cents per page copied for public documents and items from our family files.
Requests can be mailed or sent by e-mail to the Historical Society.
